Some Literary Terms
Diction:The selection of words in a writing or speech.
Connotation: The indirect meaning of a word.
Denation: The direct meaning of a word.
Alliteration : Repetition of a consonant at the beginning of two or more words or stressed.
Allusion : An implicit or indirect reference to another work of literature,a historical or mythical person or event.
Meter : The arrangement of "feet" [stressed and unstressed syllables] in a verse line .
Motif: One of the dominant ideas in a work of literary.
Pun : A play upon words which are similar in sound but different in meaning.
Hamartia: An error or a flaw in the character of the protagonist of a tragedy.
Poetic Justice: The natural judgment which gives the wicked his due punishment and the virtuous his due reward.
